I DID NOT RAISE HER THAT WAY

I did not raise her that way...I just don't know what happened. I did not raise her to become a cannibal... and she is starting to set a bad influence on Ethyl. Now Lucy has been conspiring with Ethyl to join her evil ways. I just don't know what to do. I have been listening for her cackle every morning and I rush out to try to save those eggs. Some days I'm lucky and some days she beats me in recovering those precious eggs and she just flips her little beak up in the air as to say ... eggs, what eggs, there are no eggs in this nest today. I had been wondering for a while why I was not finding Lucy and Ethyl's eggs until one day I caught her (Lucy) in the act...pecking away at the eggs. Right now she doesn't know how lucky she is in getting away with this act. If DH finds out I'm for sure she will become next Sunday's dinner. Yep.....she just doesn't know how lucky she is.

MY SISTER ROCKS!!!!!

I just returned from San Antonio, I was there to help cheer my little sister Michelle and her team "RBR" in their first 1/2 Marathon Run. It was all soooo exciting to see so many runners, 30,000 + runners.

Congrats to Michelle and her teammates "RBR"!!!

Great run....she finished at 2:59:54.

After all the walking my Aunt Dorothy and I did (which was no where near the 13.1 miles my sister ran... LOL), it felt as if we had run the marathon. We were sooo tired that as soon as we got home we fell asleep.

I LOVE THE SMELL OF BREAD BAKING

Today I tried out a new recipe for bread and also made some rolls. I really liked this recipe and it was so easy.

I just love the way the house smells when there is fresh bread baking in the oven.

POTATOE BREAD RECIPE:

7 to 8 cups bread flour

1 cup mashed potatoe flakes

1/4 cup sugar

2 teaspoons salt

2 pkg. active dry yeast

2 cups water

1 cup milk

1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted

Grease three 8x4 loaf pans for loaves of bread or if making the rolls grease baking sheet.

In large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups bread flour, potatoe flakes, salt and yeast, blend well. In meadium saucepan, heat water, milk and margarine or butter until warm (120 to 130 F). Add warm liquid to flour mixture slowly. Blend at low speed until moistened, beat 3 minutes at medium speed. Stir in an additional 4 to 5 cups flour until dough pulls cleanly away from sides of bowl.

On floured surface, knead in 3/4 to 1 1/4 cups bread flour until dough is smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes). Place dough in greased bowl; cover loosely with plastic and cloth towel. let rise in warm place until doubles in size. About 1 hr.

Punch down dough several times to remove all air bubbles. Allow to rest on counter covered with inverted bowl for 15 minutes. Divide dough into 6 equal parts if making the three loafs of bread. Shape each part into 10 inch rope. Twist 2 ropes together; pinch ends firmly to seal. Repeat with remaining ropes. Place in prepared pans. Cover, let rise in warm place until dough fills pans about 30 minutes. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Bake 35 minutes or until loaves sound hollow when lightly tapped. Remove from pans immediately, brush with melted margarine or butter.

If making rolls shape in balls and place on greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise , about 10 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted margarine or butter while still warm.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

Hope everyone is having a great Fourth of July and a safe one. Every 4th the Lodge which DH belongs to participates in the parade which is held by the City of Bellaire. We always take our trailer so that they can decorate it and get the hay so everyone has a place to sit on. This year we were not sure it would be held due to Alex and all of the rain he brought. It turned out to be a nice day, there were a few clouds but it did not rain on our parade.

We threw out a lot of candy and we tried not to eat so much of it, but when you buy your favorite kind it always is a little hard not to eat it or take it back with you. ( I put a few of the tootsie pops in my pocket, don't tell DH).

THERE'S A NEW GIRL IN TOWN

There is a new girl in town. We had to find a buddy for Lucy our Rhode Island Red Hen as all of the other hens are Americaunas and they have their own little click and do not let Lucy join in all of the fun. In fact, Elvis our Rooster has been very mean to Lucy by pecking out all of her feathers on the back of her neck. So now let me introduce Ethyl who will now be Lucy's BFF.

Sorry for the bad picture. I have Lucy and Ethyl in their own cage so that Lucy can re cooperate from her wounds and to keep them away from the other snooty girls for the moment. That's Lucy in the background checking Ethyl out.

THE CARROTS ARE IN

Finally we were able to pull out the carrots. We have had so much rain and then we got the cold weather, we just were not able to pull them out until yesterday. Now I need to freeze these babies and store them away. Fresh grown garden carrots are just soooo sweet and very tasty. Yum, can't wait to cook them.

I JUST LOVE SNOWBALLS!

Especially the ones you can eat. I made this for Valentine's and it was so delicious.

Found the recipe on the Food & Family Magazine.

Here's the recipe:

1 pkg devil's food cake mix
1 pkg. 8oz. cream cheese, softened
1 egg
2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
1 pkg. 3.4 oz. vanilla flavor instant pudding
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup cold milk
2 cups thawed cool whip whipped topping
1 cup flake coconut

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare cake mix as per instructions on box. Pour batter in a 2 1/2 quart ovenproof bowl.
Beat cream cheese, egg and granulated sugar until well blended, spoon into center of batter in bowl. Bake 1 hour and 5 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in bowl 10 min. Invert onto cake plate and make sure it is completely cooled before icing.

ICING: While cake is baking, beat dry pudding mix, powdered sugar and milk in medium bowl with whisk 2 min Stir in cool whip. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Frost with pudding mixture. Cover with coconut.

Hope you try this, it is really like a great big snowball cupcake.

Finally.... A Post

Wow, It sure has been some time since I last posted. I was having trouble uploading my pics. I did'nt know what to post so I just posted my little Christmas tree. I didn't have time to put up my big tree for Christmas, but I guess it turned out to be OK as I didn't have to spend to much time taking down my decorations. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. I know...I'm a little late. I now need to start thinking of Valentine decorations.

Well, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still here. Hope for a better post tomorrow.

13 Days to Halloween Blog Party!!! ooOOOooooOOoooOOoo EEK!

I would like to show you how to make Tootsie Roll Spiders.

You will need black netting, 4 tootsie rolls, and 2 black pipe cleaners. I used the butter plastic lid for a pattern in cutting the netting. You will need to cut two circles of netting for each spider.

Place 4 tootsie rolls in center of netting.

Cut the 2 pipe cleaners in half. You will then have 4 pieces of pipe cleaners. Twist the four pieces of pipe cleaners around netting enclosing the four tootsie rolls.

These will become the eight legs of the spider.

Shape and bend the pipe cleaner legs.

Now you have a completed Tootsie Roll Spider Treat.

I Just Love Aprons

I have just been in the sewing mood. I found soooo many cute apron patterns. I must have at least 21 different patterns. I just love this pattern, it is so easy to sew. My sister requested an apron for her friend . We were at Wal Mart and she found this cute print. I also made one for her friends little daughter, so now they have a Mommy and daughter apron set.

Now back to the print of this material. If you look close you will see that it has to do with Elvis Presley's Army information. Now how cool it that! So you know I also had to get some of that material for myself.

I also made a flirty apron for my sister. I thought this was soooo cute with all of the ruffles.

Well, that is how I spent my week, sewing aprons. There is always room for another apron.

Refrigerator Bread

I have always wanted to make yeast rolls but could never find the right recipe. I think I found a great one. You make the dough and you don't even have to bake all of it at one time. You are able to keep the dough in your fridge for up to 4 days. Just bake the amount of rolls you want, this way you are able to have fresh baked rolls every morning.With this recipe you can also make it into 2 loaves of bread or cinnamon rolls. I haven't made it into loaves yet but I did make it into cinnamon rolls and everyone could not wait long enough for me to ice them.

Here's the recipe for Refrigerator Bread:

2 pkgs active dry yeast

1 1/2 cups warm water

1 cup lukewarm mashed potatoes

2/3 cup granulated sugar

2/3 cup butter

2 large eggs

1 1/2 tsp. salt

7 to 71/2 cups bread flour ( I used 1 cup wheat flour and the rest in bread flour)

1 .Combine the yeast with all of the water and the remaining ingredients except the flour.

2. Mix in 3 1/2 of the bread flour ( this is where I mixed in the 1 cup wheat flour and 2 1/2 cups bread flour to start with). I put this all in my kitchen aid mixer with the dough hook.

3. Mix in additional flour until the dough starts pulling away from the bowl. I then placed the dough onto a floured board and started to knead and add the remaining flour. I kneaded for about 5 min. until the dough felt like a smooth dough ball. I then sprayed my bowl with Pam Spray and placed the dough ball inside bowl. Cover with plastic and place inside refrigerator. Punch down when doubled in size (about 30 min)

4. Keep dough refrigerated for up to 4 days, punching down if doubled in size.

5. About 2 hrs before baking, shape dough into your loaves and place in pans. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise about 1 hr. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 35 minutes.

6. If making cinnamon rolls, I just took out enough dough to roll out a rectangle and I made a spread of cinnamon, brown sugar and softened butter. I then spread this mixture on top of the dough rectangle and also sprinkle chopped pecans. I rolled it up like a jelly roll and sliced. I placed the sliced pieces on baking sheet sprayed with Pam Spray. Covered them with plastic wrap and let double in size about 1 hr.

Bake at 375 degrees 12-15 minutes. Let cool and glaze. I made the glaze with powdered sugar, vanilla 1 tsp. and about 1-2 tablespoons of milk.

I really liked this recipe and will be making these for our Thanksgiving dinner this year.

For this Pink Saturday I will show you 2 of the aprons I made for my sister. I just love this one because of the cupcake pattern.This one is also cute because it has crowns and and says princess.

This is my one pink flower I have. All of the others just wilted away in the heat.

PROJECT FRIDAY!

I have always wanted to make the scrapbook paper letters I have seen on other blogs and finally I made some.
Items needed:

Wooden Letters (I bought mine at Hobby Lobby)
Mod Podge
Foam brush
Acrylic Paint
Scrap Book papers (I bought mine at Hobby Lobby)

1. Trace the letters onto the scrap book paper and cut out.
2. Paint the back and sides of the letters.(Do not paint the top of the letter as you will be putting the scrapbook paper with Mod Podge.)Let them dry before going to the next step.
3. Pour some of the Mod Podge on a paper plate and brush onto the top of the letter you are working with and place the cut out scrapbook paper on top. Make sure you smooth out the air bubbles. Brush some more of the Mod Podge on top of the paper to seal it. Continue this step with each letter. Let dry.

Hope you will give this a try. I know I will be making some more. This was so much fun.

Sorry for being soooo late! I would like to introduce you to Sophia Loren aka Ms. Sophie. She is some diva. I had one heck of a time trying to get her to pose. She just did not want to participate in this weeks Pink Saturday. I told her she just had to smile and show off her beautiful pink collar with a pink bell on it. She just foo fooed and said what...ever!

Finally, she gave in and said quick! Snap at it and let's get this over with.

Then she just sighed....and said " Is this what all the fuss is about?

Then she just turned her back and said "This is the end"

I Love Birthday Cake!!!

I just love to eat birthday cake! Especially when its Big Red Cake! I'm also glad my sister quit counting her birthdays at 22years. That means I can stop at 42 years. You see...my little sister and I have the same birthday...July 5th....and I'm 20 years older than she is. My Dad, Mom, sister and Aunt came over this weekend to celebrate our birthday. We had so much fun. We drank Pina Coladas and Appletinis and watched several movies.

This is my youngest son Mark and our middle son David with myself and DH (Our oldest son could not be here). I guess we were staring at the other photographer as we sure weren't looking into this camera...and looks like our sons thought they would get their heads chopped off by the way they are bending down. My Mom must have been taking the picture, she usually cuts the tops of our heads.LOL

Here I am with my sister, my Mom and Aunt. I guess I was the only one looking at the correct camera. I always have so much fun when they come over as we try to go to all the thrift stores we can find.

The Big Red Cake is a real simple recipe:

1 box white cake mix. Bake as per directions.

1 16 oz. frozen strawberries at room temperature

1 small box strawberry jello

1 Big Red soda can or strawberry soda

1 large tub of cool whip

Mix strawberries with jello and Big red. Stir until well blended. With wooden spoon handle poke holes in cake. Pour strawberry mixture on top of cake. Frost with cool whip. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or overnight.

(As this was the Fourth of July Weekend we decorated the cake to resemble a flag. We sprinkled with fresh blueberries to be the stars and sliced fresh strawberries to be the stripes on the flag).

I waited too long to take a picture of my one zinnia flower. The hot temps we have been having lately have taken a toll on my flowers. We had a record high of 104 degrees Wednesday and Friday it was 103.

I just love my pink garden gloves. They get a hard work out...but only when I put them on...and lately it has been too hot.

Hope everyone stays cool....we're expecting another hot day.

Aren't these little birdie salt and pepper shakers cute! I had visited other blogs and they mentioned they found these at Target. Soooo, I just had to go and see if I could find them.... and they were only $4.99. What a bargain!

I went to a Fairy Garden Seminar this past Saturday and I had planned to take pictures, however my camera batteries died and I could not take any pictures. Arrgh! DH went with me, he could not believe he was attending a Fairy Garden Seminar...hehehe! All in all it was very interesting. They have such cute little items for the garden. I plan to build this Fairy Garden soon and will post pictures when completed.

It's Pink Saturday! Thank you to Beverly for hosting another fabulous Pinkie Day. Here are some of my finds when I went to the thrift shop this past Wednesday. Love the rose on this tea bag holder. This sugar bowl without a lid was also a great find for 25 cents.

Now let me introduce you to Maria, this is my pink Angel Trumpet Vine that my friend Maria gave me. She loves to bloom quite a bit. I just love the soft pink color.

I went thrifting this past week and came across some very cute rose desert plates, bowls and napkin holders.

These napkin holders were so cute I just had to have them.

The plates are also nice, there are a few that have some chips. I think I may just use them in some project. I will post about this at a later date.

The only problem I have about using them in projects is that I cringe at the thought of having to break them up. I always feel I am going to change my mind and it will be too late after they are broken in pieces. I guess I will just have to try and not think so much about it and just start breaking.

While we were at the coast, we noticed a pink psychedelic painted beach house. Sorry for the poor picture. It was painted with several different pink colors. It really looked very cool.

Steer, Steer, Fish!

On our way to the coast we were surprised to see this. At first I thought it was a trail ride. We usually see a few of these during Rodeo Week, but that was in February. It turns out to be a cattle drive. There were cowboys everywhere on horses herding cattle down the main highway.

We had to pull over to the side of the road and stop. Look what was coming straight at us. Good thing we were in our vehicle.

Now I'm not quite sure if the 18-wheeler was also helping herd the cattle but it was right behind them.

Only in Texas can you get too see a cattle drive, on a highway at that. LOL

See those tire marks in the sand to the left of the picture. Well, DH thought he had turned on the 4-wheel drive on our SUV so that we could go onto the beach. Guess what? Yep, he did not turn it on correctly and we got stuck in the sand. Arrgh! I tried to call our insurance towing service to send a tow truck to pull us out but they could not locate where we were. We told them at the end of the beach! I don't know what street we're on, we're at the end of the beach, by the pier at Matagorda State Park where the land ends into the ocean! No, we're not in Corpus Christi, we're at the end of the beach! In Matagorda State Park.! Don't you have GPS so that you can locate our cell phone signal! No I don't have a street name. OK, so you found the park on your map, why can't you help, because he said he needs a street name. Arrgh! Well, just follow your map to the end of the little black line until it runs into the ocean. Nope, he couldn't even do that. (I will never call our insurance towing service again, they were no help, again). Well, by this time we all started to feel that this trip had ended. We did get pulled out of the sand by a nice person (who knew how to operate his 4-wheel). We were starting to think that after all this our fishing luck was just not going our way but decided to go ahead and give it a try.

And guess what. DH got a hit on his pole and had to have my son give him some help to bring this little beauty in.

I think we need to get a bigger ice chest so that this does not happen again. LOL This was just the first of the catch. They caught a total of 10 fish. This of course being the biggest of the catch. We had to stop fishing for more as our cooler could not hold any more fish.

Catching all of the fish did make it a great fishing trip and made up for us getting stuck in the sand.

A Walk In The Enchanted Forest

We went to my favorite garden center this afternoon "The Enchanted Forest" and I found the cutest Fairy Garden. It even had a little swimming pool. The Fairy House is also sooooo cute. I think I would love to live there. In fact, I think I would love to have my back yard to look like this. It was just sooo relaxing walking around and seeing such beautiful flowers and all kinds of plants everywhere.

We were there to find blueberry plants and raspberry plants.

I was able to find a blueberry but no raspberry plants. I guess I will need to try their other location which is also just as beautiful.

We finally moved our girls out of the garage and into their temporary coop until we get the hen house built. We used our dog pen to get the girls set up. They were so funny just to watch. For the first day they did not want to get out of the cage at all.

They were all bunched up at the corner of the cage all day long, too scared of the new environment.

The next morning I found them all outside of their cage on the ground pecking their grass floor, which of course will soon be gone once they start scratching at it.

This is actually one of the boys (Julio Iglesias) Iggy for short.

I also received my Annie from my swap partner Betty. My little Annie is just tooo cute. Thanks Betty. I really enjoyed this Annie Swap.

Well, we're suppose to go fishing in the morning. I just hope we get up early enough, as they say early bird catches the worm, which in this case early fishermen catch the fish. Let's see what great fish story we come up with.

We're Feeling Better

I'm back. I think I'm over my illness. For awhile there, I thought DH and I had the flu. It's taken us about 4 weeks and 2 doctor visits and a trip to the emergency room for us to get rid of this bug. We still have a slight cough but not as bad. I had to miss out on my trip to San Antonio because of this :( I do plan to makeup for this so hopefully I will get to make the trip soon.

I did manage to finish my doll for the Annie Swap I was in. I hope my partner has received her already as I'm posting a pic of her below. I had so much fun sewing her up. The pattern was so easy to follow that I made four Annie's.

The weather has really started to heat up. I have sooooo many projects I need to complete outside that I really will have to push myself to go outside. Our little chicks are growing up sooo fast. I will need to post a picture of them soon. We need to start building their home real quick as we still have them in a cage inside the garage and DH is ready for them to move out.

PROJECT FRIDAYPAPER TOWEL TUBE PEAT POTS

Today is Project Friday hosted by Roemarie at Sugar Plum Cottage, http://sugarplumcottage.blogspot.com/ Be sure to go and visit her for the list of all participants and their projects Today I'm showing you how to make peat pots for your seeds out of paper towel tubes. Cut the tubes into 3 inch sizes.

Then cut 4 equal slits around the bottom of the tube.

Fold the slits to make the bottom enclosure of the peat pots.

Then fill them with your starter soil and plant your seeds. Place the peat pots into a used plastic butter bowel to hold until time for planting. This will also help when you water your peat pots so that the water does not flow out every where. Then when your seedlings have sprouted you can plant the whole peat pot into the ground.

It seems we both have the allergies pretty bad that we had to get some antibiotics to get rid of this stuff. Below is a plate of some pretty pink butterflies and I have filled it up with some pink Easter Grass and eggs.

This is our cute little niece. This was her bunny outfit this past Halloween.

Today my project is Bunny Folded Napkins. I saw this on Martha Stewart's website and thought this would be great for this Easter Holiday.

Fold your napkin up from the bottom and then from the top.

Then fold again.

Fold each side down the middle as shown below.

Then fold the bottom of each side up, making a square.

Then fold each side towards the middle as shown.

This will be making the ears of the rabbit.

Carefully flip it over.

Then bring the bottom point up as shown below.

Carefully flip it over and fold the right side towards the left side of the napkin half way

as you will then be folding the left side of the napkin and tucking it inside the pocket that was

created when the right side of the napkin was folded over.

Then you can the bunny napkin up and place it on your plate.

Project FridayMicaela's Capirotada (Bread Pudding)

Today is Project Friday and I am sharing my Mom's recipe for Capirotada which is Bread Pudding. Every Easter I remember my Mom making this for us to eat on Friday during Lent. My brothers and I were always so anxious to eat this as soon as it came out of the oven and in order for us not to burn our mouth my Mom would put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I did not do this today as now I can wait until it cools down a bit before we eat it. lol. The ingredients:

1 loaf of white bread

1 quart of water

2 cups brown sugar

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 tsp. cloves

1 Tblsp. cinnamon

1 stick butter

1 cup raisins

8 oz grated yellow cheese

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup milk

Put water, sugars, cloves, cinnamon and raisins in pot and boil. About 20 min.

Toast the bread and butter the slices. Grate your cheese.

Butter 9 x 13 pan, and start layering the toasted bread. Sprinkle the grated cheese and pecans. Then spoon some of the liquid with raisins over the cheese and toast. Continue layering and pouring liquid with raisin until finished using the bread.

Pour any remaining liquid and raisins on top of the toast and cheese .

Now get one cup milk and pour over the toasted bread. With a spoon cut in the bread to make sure the milk gets down into the layers. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

If you can't wait for it to cool, try putting a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top or eat it just plain without the ice cream.

The Girls Are Here to Stay!

Guess who came to dinner and stayed? The Girls, yes, I got 8 little fluffs of downy feathery baby chicks. I actually went to the feed store to buy corn seeds and asked if they had any baby chicks and they said Yes. Well, I brought them all home with me. Now I need to name them. So far I have named three of them. Buttercup, Freckles and Red. I still haven't thought of the other five names yet. I need to take a closer look at the others tomorrow to see what makes them each stand out. But, right now, I am so happy they are here. Now I need to start planning on building their home. We got Americanas, they are the ones who lay the blue and green eggs or as Martha Stewart would say " The Easter colored eggs"

I think I will take them for an outing tomorrow to see their surroundings, of course this outing will be supervised.

Let Them Eat Coffee Cake!

Today was baking day. I made our favorite coffee cake. It asks for Smucker's Cherry Preserves but I have not been able to find it at our local supermarket so I substituted Smucker's Raspberry Seedless Preserves. I'm sure you could use any other type of preserves and it would taste just a good. Cherry Swirl Coffee Cake

1 1/4 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup Crisco All Vegetable Shortening
1 package (1/4 ounce active dry yeast
3 1/4 cups all purpose flour
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cu Smucker's Cherry Preserves
1 cup powdered sugar
Milk
1/3 cup sliced almonds ( I used chopped pecans)

Heat 1/14 cups milk, salt, granulated sugar, and shortening in small saucepan just to boiling; cool to lukewarm. Stir in yeast; transfer mixture to medium bowl. Add one cup of the flour to milk mixture; beat well. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Stir in enough remaining flour to make a thick batter; beat until smooth. Let rise, covered, in warm place, free from drafts, until doubled in bulk, about one hour. Stir batter down. Pour batter into two greased 9" round cake pans; let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk, about one hour. Make a swirl design on top of batter with a floured spoon; fill grooves with preserves, using 1/4 cup for each coffee cake. Heat oven to 375F. Bake coffee cakes until golden, 30 to 35 minutes. Remove from pans. cool on wire racks. Fill grooves with remaining preserves. Mix powdered sugar, with enough milk to make thin glaze consistency; drizzle over warm coffee cakes. Sprinkle with almonds.

PINK SATURDAY

Are you ready for PINK SATURDAY ? It's that time again for everyone participating to show their Pinkness. So go visit Beverly of "How Sweet The Sound" http://www.howsweetthesound.typepad.com/ and see the list of everyone showing their Pinkness.

I found these dishes (6 dinner plates and 5 small desert bowls) at a garage sale in our town. Can you believe,they were selling these dishes with another set (I'll show these at a later post) for $5.00. I was then lucky enough to find this pattern at our local hospital thrift store for the fabulous price of $5.00 also, couldn't believe it. I don't have any cups and saucers...but I now have a total of 15 dinner plates, 12 luncheon plates, 8 soup bowls and 5 small desert bowls. I am now on the hunt for the cups and saucers. Maybe I'll be lucky someday.

The Garden is Ready

We finally cleaned the garden of all the weeds, as you can see DH finally got the "Little Green Thing" (John Deere Tractor) to finally plow the garden. Yahoo! We no longer need to depend on our fantastic wonderful helpful neighbors we have to come and plow for us. I think we will keep our "Little Green Thing" after all. Now we have to wait for three days to plant our seeds as I sprinkled the Preen so we won't have a lot of those nasty weeds. That stuff really works great!

As DH was plowing between the third and fourth row he kept saying that he felt a piece of rock or something. Well it turns out that there was this big piece of cement slab as you can see below. Well we did end up having to get our helpful neighbor to bring over his big red tractor to pull this slab out of our garden. No wonder last planting our plants kept falling over on this section of the garden. We could not figure out why. Well this is why, this big piece of cement. I told DH that this would now be his pouting stone. So he better behave. LOL. I guess I better go make a sign so he doesn't forget where he will be sent if he misbehaves.

Hope we get some rain soon, well maybe after I plant, that would be helpful.

My DH was laughing at me as I was trying to get all of the answers. He said I would most likely come in last place as we do not have high speed internet. In trying to find the pics, my computer froze 4 times, I had to let the dog out to pee, and the nerve of my DH and son wanting me to fix them dinner. Can you imagine they wanting food during my treasure hunt, how dare they...there is peanut butter and crackers in the pantry. Now of course I did have to make time to speak to my odest son who called us from Chicago. Oh, well, I did have lots of fun looking up the answers. This was a fantastic Treasure Hunt. Thanks Malisa for a fun time.

"PROJECT FRIDAY"~~GLITTERED EASTER EGGS

Sorry for being a little late, OK, a lot late. But I have my project ready. Today is "Project Friday" hosted by Rosemarie at Sugar Plum Cottage, http://sugarplumcottage.blogspot.com/ . Please go and visit her for the list of participants and their projects. Today I am showing you how to make Glittered Easter Eggs, using the plastic eggs.
List of items to get:
1. Plastic Eggs
2. White glue (I used Elmer's) 2 parts glue to 1 part water
3. Pages from old books ( torn into small square pieces)
4. Glitter
5. Ribbons, buttons and other items to decorate eggs.

In a bowl dilute the white glue (2 parts glue to 1 part water) with water. Tear the book pages into small square pieces and dip them in the glue mixture. Now this will be a little messy. Place the torn pieces over the egg and smooth out the creases

While egg is still damp place in bowl with glitter and roll it around or you can get a plastic spoon and sprinkle the glitter over the egg.

You will need to let dry over night before decorating the eggs.

I used ribbons, small roses, buttons

and little pearls hot glued onto the eggs.

And look how cute they look inside the small Easter Baskets which I made for last week's Project Friday.

SOUP'S ON

Here is a quick and easy soup to make when you really don't have a lot of time.

TACO SOUP & SWEET CORN BREAD
Taco Soup Ingredients:

1 lb ground meat
1 can whole kernel corn, drained
1 can pinto beans
1 can kidney beans
1 small can tomato sauce
1 pkg. taco seasoning
(If you want to make it a little spicy, add 1 can Rotell tomatoes w/ chilies)
Sour Cream
Shredded yellow sharp cheddar cheese

Brown ground meat. When cooked, drain grease if any. Add taco seasoning, tomato sauce, beans and corn. Stir, and let simmer for about 20 minutes.

Serve and garnish with shredded cheese and a dollop of sour cream.

Sweet Corn Bread Ingredients:

1 Cup Flour

1 Cup Corn Meal

1 Tablespoon Baking powder

4 Tablespoons Sugar

1/4 cup oil

1 1/2 tsp. salt

1 cup milk

1 egg
1 can whole kernel corn, drained

Mix all ingredients and pour into greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min.

Now serve yourself a bowl of taco soup and a square of sweet corn bread. Yummy! Yummy! Good for your tummy! Enjoy!

IT'S PINK SATURDAY!

Today I am showing a few of my vintage nut cups, one is a crepe paper rose held up by a thin spiral wire wrapped in green crepe paper. The nuts or mints would be placed inside the rose. The other is a a cute little paper nut cup made to resemble a little basket and has a handle with some little paper flowers on it. The cake is just a little plastic trinket box which the cake top can be lifted and filled up with your goodies.

PROJECT FRIDAY!

Welcome to my first "Project Friday". Our host for this fun weekly event is Rose at Sugar Plum Cottage, http://sugarplumcottage.blogspot.com/ . Vist her to check out her project and the list of all the participants. My "Friday Project" is : A Small Easter Basket Favor

The list of materials needed are as follows:

1. Peat Pots ( I found mine at the dollar store 16 peat pots for $1.00)

2. Acrylic Paints

3. Crepe Paper

4. Pipe cleaners

5. White Glue (Elmers)

6. Glue gun and glue sticks

7. Easter decals

8. Bamboo skewer or anything with a sharp point

First get the bamboo skewer and poke a hole on two opposite sides of peat pot. This is for the pipe cleaner handle.

Then you can paint your peat pot. Paint the bottom and the top rim also. Let dry before the next step.

Take your peat pot once it is completely dried and put in the pipe cleaner through the holes on each side and twist the ends up around the handle top.

Now you can glue your Easter decal using the white glue.

Next I used crepe paper from the role and just stitched up the middle of the crepe paper on my sewing machine on the longest stitch and it created little ruffles. You can pull the threads carefully if you want the ruffles to be a little tighter but be careful as it can easliy rip.

I then hot glued the ruffles to the inside of the peat pot. I matched the sewing edge of the crepe paper to the top edge of the peat pot inside and glued it just a bit down so the thread on the crepe paper would not show on the outside of peat pot.

You can then add embellishments such as ribbons and bows onto the little baskets. Then fill them with Easter grass and your choice of goodies.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY!

Today was such a beautiful day. We were able to go outside and clear out the over grown garden. I pulled the last row of carrots, of course I had to pull some weeds out of the way to get to the carrots. My son Mark and his friend Barret helped pull weeds and cleared out the rest of the rows in no time. They then got on the tractor and tilled the dirt. I still think it needs a little more work. Our little John Deer needs to be adjusted as the discs just don't dig far into the ground as DH would like it to. We may just ask our neighbor to bring in his big tractor and help us out. I'm just glad the garden has been cleared out. I'm sure our neighbors are happy too. It was a sad sight. But not anymore.

Today I'm showing my glass Rooster and Hen. I keep them by my kitchen sink. I keep my jewelry inside the Hen when I'm washing dishes and I keep the dish scrubber in the Rooster when not in use. Mr. Frog wanted to get into the picture just because he is wearing a pink rhinestone collar . He's just a show off. LOL

It's Pink Saturday!

I just love my rose lamps. I purchased two from a lady who was closing up her antique store. The angel was a birthday gift from my cousins. It takes a tea light inside the back and just looks gorgeous all lit up. The IPod was a gift from my son. I put those earphones on and all I hear is my music. My DH states that I put them on when I want to ignore him and my son. Maybe he's right. LOL. I really can't hear anybody when I have them on. They actually have to yell and wave their arms so that I can get their attention.

I Know My Garden Was Here.

Well here it is, it's not a pretty sight. You might want to sit down and take a deep breath. I know what your thinking, (Irma, how could you let this happen). Where is your garden?
This all came about when I was in my "blue mood". I sort of just gave up. Did not have the energy to work in the garden every day like I should have. This is what happens when you become sluggish and everything just goes to pot. .......And even though I was soooo neglectful. Look what came out. Yes, I finally got carrots. My little neglected garden did not fail me.

I know its hard to tell because of all the weeds, but I still have another row of carrots to pull.

I guess I better get ready for tomorrow for some more weed pulling and, oh yes, some more carrots.

LAZY HAZY DAYS

Today has just been a lazy day. I really wanted to go out and work on my poor neglected garden, but what did I do? I just layed around watching TV and did nothing. Well, I did make a list of all the things I want to accomplish this year. I guess you can call it a "Yearly To Do List". I stopped at #60 and I still have more to list. I just got tired of listing everything. I have soooo many projects to finish I just don't know where to begin. I also want to start decorating for Easter early so that I won't be trying to do everything the day of Easter. Well, there is always tomorrow, but tomorrow I want to go thrifting. Now that sounds like more fun. Don't you think?

I want to show you a cute purse my Aunt Dorthy gave me. It has all of these gorgeous embroidered cat ladies all dressed up. Here's the front side of the purse. And here is the back side of the purse. I just love the cat lady in red. Oh La La!

GREAT VALENTINE'S WEEKEND

We had a great Valentine's Day weekend. My Dad, Mom, Sister and Aunt came in from San Antonio and stayed to celebrate. We made Quiche Muffins for breakfast that came out very tasty. We had hash browns and a fresh fruit salad to go with it. It was all so delicious. My sister is such a great cook and baker. She makes the most beautiful and tasty cakes. We went to a cake shop to buy edible glitter, cookie cutters and cake pans. She bought a cake pan in the shape of Texas. She wants to bake a Texas cake for one of my brothers birthday.

Quiche Muffins

4 Medium Eggs
1 cup milk
2/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 cups biscuit mix
2 1/4 cups diced ham
2 cups shredded zucchini
2 cups fresh spinach leafs
3/4 cup chopped green onions (with green tops)
3/4 cup grated Cheddar cheese
3/4 cup grated Swiss cheese
3/4 cup grated Provolone cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Oil muffin cups. Stir eggs, milk, butter and biscuit mix in a bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients, blending thoroughly (batter may be refrigerated overnight in an air-tight container). Scoop batter into prepared muffin cups. Bake 15-18 minutes.

This is the chocolate cake she baked for us to celebrate Valentine's Day. Chocolate and strawberries, yum, yum! Soooo, good together, and a little champagne doesn't hurt.

My Mom and Dad wanted a picture taken before the cake was sliced and eaten.

My Dad had been looking for an owl and could not find one in San Antonio, so I surprised him for Valentine's Day with one. We named him Hedwig Jr. as I have Hedwig in my garden (now that's another story about my poor neglected garden. I will have to do a separate post on that soon). My Dad was not feeling to well when this picture was taken, but he did manage to put a big smile when I snapped the picture. He went back home with a terrible cough. He actually lost his voice. Spoke to my Mom today and he is doing much better as he ended up going to the doctor for medication.

2 PART POST: PART 1- I'M NO RACHAEL RAY and PART 2-DID YOU SAY BLACKBIRDS?

PART ONE OF POST:

Today I tried a new recipe (using that expensive spice "cardamon" I previously mentioned). I made Chicken Shawarma with Grilled Vegetable Couscous Salad.
I saw this recipe made on Rachael Ray on the Food Network show. On TV the recipe really looks soooo good and hey, it only took her 30 minutes to complete the main dish with a side. Now that sounds great because I don't want to be in the kitchen for over 30 minutes cooking. Right? Well, I will never be a Rachael Ray. I started preparing this dish and side dish at 4:00 PM.
Slathering the paste like spice mixture as called for on the recipe onto the chicken breasts. I then put the chicken on the grill.

While the chicken is grilling, I started to saute the onions and bell pepper with lemon juice and garlic.

I then grilled the eggplant and zucchini which was brushed with EVOO (as Rachael would say) salt and pepper.

I also cooked the couscous, which this is the first time I tried it. Sorry how the pic looks as I took it at night time and the light was not that great. I did not finish cooking until 6:00PM, yes, it took me 2 hrs to complete Rachael's 30 min meal. Needless to say, I will not be making this again. The chicken is then sliced and put into the pita pockets with the grilled onions and peppers and a dollop of greek yogurt, but I used sour cream with lemon juice instead. The grilled veggies were put on top of the couscous.

SECOND PART OF TODAYS POST:

Yesterday was DH 61st birthday. If you are ever in Houston you need to stop by the "Flying Saucer Pie Company". They have the most fabulous pies. During the Thanksgiving Holidays there usually is a line out the door. My MIL and SIL called and said they were coming over and when they arrived they had two pie boxes with them. Goody! Goody!

The first pie box held a cheese cake pie with strawberries on top and whipped cream. Wow! we are hitting this first.

Ok, now this is where it gets interesting. We open the second pie box and what do we see?

My first thought was that nursery rhyme something about "four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie, when the pie was opened the birds began to sing". I could just picture the birds singing and flying out of the pie. Well, what really happened is that it takes about 1 hr. from my MIL's house in Houston to our house here in Orchard. They got hungry and wanted to taste the blackberry pie and since they were given spoons with the pie, well, I guess you know what happened next.

Well, we had a good laugh after we saw the pie and then we ate some of the Banana Split Cake I made for his birthday and of course tasted the pies my MIL and SIL brought. This cake is so addicting and it seems to taste even better the next day (if there is any left, ha! ha!).

BANANA SPLIT CAKE

2 cups Cinnamon graham cracker crumbs

1 stick butter

2 8oz. pkg. cream cheese, room temperature

1 box powdered sugar

5 medium bananas

1 cup chopped pecans

1 can crushed pineapple, drained

1 large container cool whip

chocolate syrup

1 jar cherries

Melt butter and combine with the Cinnamon graham crumbs in 9 x 13 pan. Pat down for crust. In a medium bowl using hand mixer, combine cream cheese and powdered sugar. Then pour on top of graham crust. Slice bananas on top. Then spread the crushed pineapple on top of the bananas. Then spread the cool whip covering the bananas. Place cherries on top, drizzle chocolate syrup all over and sprinkle with pecans. Best if refrigerated overnight.

What's Up With Cardamon?

Don't you just hate going grocery shopping when your hungry and when your hubby wants to tag along and he is also hungry. Well, needless to say we did not stick to my grocery list. We bought things we have never bought before. Of course, I intend to use them in my cooking (darn it, I have to since I bought them). Now to one of the items I purchased which we really did not need, however, I have always wanted to try it out. Did you know that the spice "cardamon" could be soooo expensive. It sells for $10.59 at the store. I have always wanted to try this spice in a cookie recipe that I have and every time I would go grocery shopping I would just pass it by. I really could not see myself paying $10.59 for this little bottle of spice. BUT today, and because DH was with me and because he has always heard my story every time I return from grocery shopping of how expensive this is and I never buy it. Well, passing by this spice again today, I looked at the bottle, I picked up the bottle, turned to DH and said, " This is it, this is the expensive spice I have been telling you about, and I returned the bottle back to its little space on the shelf above the price tag of $10.59. I turned to my DH and stated, "This spice is just so darn expensive". DH just looked at me, rolled his eyes and said go ahead and buy it, you have wanted this spice for a long time, just put it in the basket and buy it. Sooooo, guess what? No hesitation after that comment. I grabbed the bottle and just tossed it into the basket with all of the other new items which we have never tried before, but that we will soon be using in our new cooking recipes. I will need to give you the scoop on these new recipes when I cook them next week. Oh, by the way, I have also been banned from watching the Food Network shows. Hee! Hee!

Blue Mood Gone! Yahoo!

I woke up today feeling a lot better. My "Blue Mood" is over. Yahoo! I feel better. The days have been a little sunny and I sat under a sun lamp (not really) but maybe that would have helped some. I sure did not like feeling so sluggish. Went to my garden and even though I have neglected my poor garden it has produced the most beautiful and very tasty veggies. I need to go and pick some more. I guess I will have to freeze them because I have so much. Has anyone ever frozen fresh broccoli? I guess I will need to get some info on this and find out how it is done. DH tried to plow the garden to see if he could remove some of the weeds, but it only pulled the carrots out. They are not quite ready but these sure were tasty.

We went to the garden center and purchased some 1015 onion bulbs. I have always wanted to make the "Blooming Onion" so hopefully I will have a lot of blooming onions to fry. Will need to post about this at a future date.

NOT IN THE GROOVE

What is wrong with me? I just can't seem to get into the groove. I have been wanting to post and I just keep avoiding it. I just feel so sluggish, no energy, can't get focused. I start to do something around the house and then all of a sudden I just feel so overwhelmed so everything is half completed. Just can't seem to pinpoint why I'm feeling this way. Maybe I need to take some vitamins, or maybe some energy drinks, YUCK! maybe not. I think I will just stick to just taking some vitamins. Those energy drinks just don't seem that they would taste too good. Maybe the energy drink I need is a Margarita. Yes! A Margarita sounds really good right now. MMMM, if only I had the fixings for one. or two! I do have some wine and Asti but I think that would just put me back into a mellow mood. Oh well, tomorrow should be butter, I mean better. See, just thinking of opening the wine and here I am getting sluggish again.
My poor garden, it has succumb to all the overpowering weed demons, and even then my broccolli, cabbage and even my carrots are still surviving and producing. The garlic is struggling to out grow the weeds, but it just fades into the green of the weeds. I just have to SNAP OUT of this mood. I still have not finished putting away my Christmas decorations. I just took down my tree yesterday, but the boxes are in my kitchen waiting to be taken to storage.
Well, tomorrow is another day. I hope the day turns out to be sunny. Maybe its this gloomy weather thats making me feel soooo sloooow and sluggish. I just have to push myself and get energetic.
I tried to post some pics but could not find the icons I needed in order to do this, so I will have to wait until another post once I get with my son to figure out what happened.

GLAD TO BE BACK!!!!

I'm still here. Finally got a new computer ,however ,we still do not have high speed internet. Sooo, I'm still running a little slow. Trying to catch up with everyone, hopefully I will be able to visit everyone. I have truly missed visiting with all of you. Soooo much to catch up on. I have been going crazy not able to blog. Our precious son #1 sent us a new computer for Christmas. We were all sooo happy.( Do you see me doing the happy dance.? I just can't type fast enough to try and get everything I want to say.) Now I have to remember how to do the little that I had learned on how to manage this computer blogging thing. I just have to re-learn again.

SLOW COMPUTER AND UNWANTED GUEST

I'm still here. I have been having some computer problems. It has been moving verrrry slow or not at all. I think I need to get a new computer. I have so much more to post and I haven't been able to visit any of my friends blogs due to this slow moving and getting frozen on my computer board. It took me 30 min. just to be able to post this entry. arrrgh!
We are having to prepare for our unwanted guest, Mr. Hurricane Ike. I was able to get the needed items. We plan to ride this one out. Last time it took us forever to get to San Antonio. We do not want to get stuck in that long line on IH-10 out of here. It was a good thing that we went to the store in town this morning as on the way back home the DPS and other law inforcement personnel road blocked Hwy 36 into downtown Rosenberg . I hope we don't get very high winds, we have an enormous tree right out side our back porch, if it falls it will either be on top of our house or the garage. I still have lots of more work in the morning moving furniture and plants into the garage. Well, I will close for know, keep our state of Texas in prayer.

FIGS AND A WITCH SWAP

This week has turned out to be a week for cooking and baking. My neighbor gave us some figs she had picked off of her fig tree. I'm not really a big fan of figs. I've only eaten figs in a Fig Newton Cookie and that was when someone else bought them and they offered one to me. If I had to choose between buying a chocolate chip cookie or a Fig Newton, well I guess you know the answer anything with chocolate is a winner all the time. In fact I think any other cookie would beat a Fig Newton. So, here I am with this huge bowl of fresh figs and I just don't know what to do with them. My son and DH liked the fresh figs and they ate a few, however, I still have this huge bowl of figs and I know they will not be able to eat all of them before they start going bad. In fact a few of the figs had already started to ripen and were popping open. I asked my neighbor what she does with all the figs she picks and she said that she makes them into fig preserves and she gave me her recipe. Well here is another dilemma, I have never made preserves and canned before. So this week has been a learning experience and a new appreciation for figs. My fig preserves turned out great and I love the taste. My DH now wants to plant a fig tree so that we can pick our own. If thats the case it will be quite a while before I can make preserves with our own figs. (hee hee)
I decided to bake some sweet rolls and use the fig preserves. Below is the recipe for the Fig Preserves and Sweet Rolls.
STRAWBERRY FIG PRESERVES:
3 cups mashed figs ( I found it easier to cut the figs in half and scoop out the pulp with a spoon, then mash the figs)
3 cups sugar
1 pkg. (6 oz.) strawberry flavored gelatin

Mix dry ingredients. Pour over figs and stir well. Cook 20 minutes or until thick. Pour into jars and seal.

SWEET ROLLS:
3 1/2 TO 4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 pkg. active dry yeast
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs

TOPPING:
1/2 cup fig preserves
1/2 cup melted butter

GLAZE:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 to 3 tablespoons milk

Grease 2 cookie sheets. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off. In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, sugar, salt and yeast; blend well. In small saucepan, heat 1 cup milk and 1/2 cup butter until very warm. Add warm liquid and eggs to flour mixture. Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed. Stir in an additional 2 cups flour until dough pulls cleanly away from sides of bowl.
On floured surface, knead in 1/4 to 1/2 cup flour until dough is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place dough in greased bowl; cover loosley with plastic wrap and cloth towel. Let rise in warm place until doubled in size, about 60 minutes.
Punch down dough several times to remove all air bubbles. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; divide into 24 pieces. Roll each piece into 15-inch rope. On prepared cookie sheet, loosely coil each rope into a circle, sealing end underneath. Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled in size, about 20 minutes.
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Carefully brush rolls with melted butter. Make deep thumbprint in center of each roll; fill with 1 teaspoon preserves. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan immediately; brush a second time with melted butter. Cool. Combine powdered sugar and milk; drizzle over cooled rolls. Makes 24 rolls.

A BIRTHDAY PARTY, BIRTH, SURGERY, AND BIRTHDAY GIVE AWAY!!!!!

Well it was a wonderful birthday celebration on Saturday July 5th. We had a Garden Party at my parents home. This is my mom, sister and myself. My sister was making Appletinis and Mimosas... mmmm, very tasty. Wish I had one now.

My Dad looks good for having had surgery on Thursday. My sister and I are the bookends in our family, as I am the oldest and she is the youngest. I have four brothers in between.

Here are three of my four brothers, my youngest brother had to leave early before this picture was taken. He and his wife just had their first born baby in June (her actual due date was to have been in August). Baby Bella is still in the hospital as she is a premie. She weighed in at 2lbs and some ounces, not quite the 3lbs. ... but by the time I left San Antonio, she did weigh the 3lbs. Please keep her in prayer.

Here is a group picture of my sister, cousins, aunts and my mom. We played the "No, Know, Knows, Nose" game. My sister copied pictures of each guest when they were younger and put them on necklaces and they were handed to them as they arrived (you can see some of us are wearing them) If anyone mentioned the word "No, Know, Knows, Nose " the person who heard it then takes their necklace away. The person who aquires the most necklaces wins the game and a prize, as well as the person who never gave up their necklace. It was very funny trying to carry a conversation when people are trying to trick you into saying these words. After the game was over everyone took their own necklace with them as one of their party favors.

Being that our birthday party was a Garden Theme, we baked our own beehive birthday cakes and decorated with frosting to resemble honey and some candy bees (You can see a bee between the letters T and H).

We blew out our candles (of course it took me several trys to get my candles out). It was a great party, can't wait to plan for next years birthday party.

I'm soooo excited, I'm going on a birthday trip to San Antonio to celebrate my birthday on July 5th with my family and my sister Michelle. We both have the same birthday (no were not twins, as I am 20, yes ,20 years older than my little sister). It's kind of hard to lie about your age when there is a 20 yr. difference reminder always there. The bright side is she will soon get to the age where she will not want to reveal her age (I'm still waiting, LOL) the down side is as I get older I can never forget my birthday and how old I am. But what the heck your as old as you feel. Sometimes I feel older than my age. heh! heh!

Yahoo! Guess what I received in the mail today, yep, my apron from the Patriotic Apron Swap. It is just adorable. I had to try it on as soon as I opened the package. It was so nicely wrapped in red tissue paper and tied with a navy blue ribbon which I know I will be using in some craft and some paper napkins with a BBQ grilling print, really cute. Her short story on how her family celebrates the 4Th of July was very interesting and sounds like so much fun. Now I will have to give grilling chicken another try again, hopefully, I won't burn it like last time. Heather was my secret swap partner and she has advised me that this is a "Good Luck Apron" so I won't have any grilling problems. Thanks Heather for such a lovely apron and for bringing me some "Good Luck Grilling."

End of Flirty Apron Swap and Thank You's

Well, the Celebrating Independence Flirty Apron Swap 2 has come to an end. Below is a picture of the apron I made for my partner. I mailed it out today. I hope she likes it. I also made an apron for her dish soap bottle. Oops! I forgot to post the picture of it. I really liked this pattern, its from See & Sew #B5125. I want to thank Wanda from The Rat's Pajamas for the Tag Kit she sent me. It was so sweet of her to send everyone who left a comment on her blog during the "2nd Annual Cottage Charm Giveaway" this sweet Tag Kit. I can't wait to start making some tags using all of the goodies she included.

I also want to thank Tina at Garden Goose for the nice giveaway she had. I really love this print of the girl with a kitty cat. This is a copy of one of her mother's paintings. It's just so cute. Sorry for the glare, I left it in the plastic sleeve when I took the picture.

I also want to thank RoseMarie at Sugarplum Cottage for the nice giveaway she had. I can't wait to decorate with it during the Fall months.

I've been late in sending out all of these thank you's and I apologize for this. I just have not been able to get into a schedule of when to blog and when to do the things I need to do around the house. I just feel so overwhelmed at this time. So many things to do and just don't know where to start.

Our garden seems to be coming to an end. I pulled all of our corn stalks and gave them to my neighbor for her cows to enjoy some greens. It has been so hot and dry that we only harvested at the most one dozen of the corn and they all did not have complete kernels on the cob. Very sad. I think this must have been due to the hot dry weather we have been having. Maybe next time our corn crop will be better. We did enjoy plenty of squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, peppers , onions and green beans. I guess it will soon be time to start preparing my seedlings for our fall garden at the end of July.

Also, keep checking in as my Birthday is coming up in July and I am planning a giveaway. In fact this will be my first giveaway. Yipee! I'm so excited.

Lesson Learned

Look at all the vegetables I picked in one day! I am so amazed that we have been able to grow all of these veggies. See how the tomatoes to the left of picture are beginning to ripen. Wish you all lived close by, I would share. I had to pick the tomatoes before the squirrels and birds decided to make a meal of them.

I had to scold Hedwig the other day...not a pretty site. I was watering the garden and had layed the water hose down in the first row while I harvested some of the veggies and who do I see... just one row away....Mr. Birdie, taking his morning bath, flapping his little wings and dunking his little feathered head in the water as to say...Look at me, your Hedwig does not scare me nor do you! Well, I walked myself over to that first row and HE STILL DID NOT MOVE! Not only was he thumbing his little beak at Hedwig, but he was thumbing his little beak at me...YES, AT ME! Well, this did not set well with me nor with Hedwig, as I started to move even closer, I guess he decided he was not as brave as he thought. He flew away, hopefully never to return. I hope Hedwig learned his lesson not to sleep on the job.

DH decided he wanted to grill chicken, (they still don't trust me on grilling since the Easter incident).

I sliced one yellow and one green squash and brushed both sides with olive oil, salt and peppered it and put them on the grill.

Vegetables and Pink Marshmallows, Yummy!

Looks like our vegetables are starting to come in. I was able to get some lettuce, peppers, bell peppers and some tomatoes. The tomatoes still have to ripen so I have them all in a row on the kitchen counter top like little round soldiers waiting to turn red. There are lots more on the vine, but my Mom said I need to wait until they sort of turn from the green to a white green. Not to leave them on vine until red as the birds will then want to peck at them.
I also got my first squash, it looks like a baseball nice and round. Well, it got eaten up for dinner today. I fixed it with onions, peppers, diced tomatoes and chicken. Yum Yum, it was just delicious! Can't wait for more to ripen. The cucumber plants are just a blooming like crazy. Can't wait to see them grow. We tied the vines onto cattle pen and they are climbing up very fast. I think we planted the tomatoes too close to each other and also too close to the cucumber plants. Well, we will be prepared next year a little better on the planting space.

Now you know I had to show some yummy pink which I call Frocks because they are the fake Crocs, but they are just as soft as can be, almost like walking on marshmallows, Pink marshmallows. I got these for Mother's Day along with some other goodies (Martha Stewart glitter, Susan Branch stamp pads, craft books and craft supplies. Yippee! I get to do some crafting while wearing my PINK Marshmallows).

Hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day. My day was great! Just stayed home and relaxed. My middle son came over and spent the afternoon with us. My oldest called to wish me Happy Mother's Day, he is in the Navy and could not make it home. My youngest son grilled chicken this time and it turned out great, did not get burned like Easter time when I tried to grill it, Middle Son remembered this incident and brought some brisket just in case (I think he was trying to be funny or maybe he just wanted to make sure we had something to eat in case it happened again, He! He!). We had Hummingbird Cake with cream cheese frosting for dessert. Very addicting. Here's the receipe for Hummingbird Cake:

3 cups all purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 eggs beaten
1 1/4 cups vegetable oil
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 can 8 oz. crushed pineapple with juice
1 cup chopped pecans
2 cups ripe mashed bananas
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon together into a mixing bowl. Add eggs and oil to dry ingredients. Stir until ingredients are moistened. Stir in vanilla, pineapple and 1 cup pecans. Stir in the bananas. Spoon the batter into 3 well greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans. (I used 2 pans which were a oval). Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes then turn onto cooling rack. Cool completely before frosting.

Crean Cheese Frosting:
2-8oz. pkgs. cream cheese room temperature
1 cup butter room temperature
2 pounds sifted confectioners sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Combine cream cheese and butter, cream until smooth. Add powndered sugar, beating with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Frost the top layers, stack and then frost sides. Enjoy!

Looky! Looky! These are the first of some peppers from our pepper plants. Its an assortment of banana peppers, cayenne, and jalapenos. Hedwig seems to be doing a great job. He has managed to keep the birds and squirrels away. Nacho is on call waiting to be backup just in case.

Above is Hedwig. He is related to Harry Potter's Hedwig. Hubby said he will scare the birdies away and our garden will be saved. Hah Hah! We will see how good a guardian he will be.

Above is our cutie lettuce. I told you it was cute. Just hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Yipee! We got help to get the weeds out. Our son volunteered to help out. Isn't he a sweetie (He really wants $30. Hmmm, lets see what else he can do for this $) Hubby was delegating where to weed and making sure no harm came to the onions which may sorta look like weeds to our son but they are really onions. Ha! Ha!.

See the bare spots we have, well Hedwig get to work, shoo those blackbirds away. I still think I will need to get him some more help. Scarecrow to the rescue! Hmmmmm! Will Nacho return and help save the garden? Stay tuned.

The Little Prince Has Arrived!

I was so surprised to find out that I had won. Please check out her blog and esty shop as she has some really cute things.

Well, today was another day of weeding, it seems to go on and on. I started to pull the weeds but hubby said noooo, use the hoe, well I tried and then my arm started hurting. This is no fun, I just want the weeds to be gone (Wish I could twitch my nose like Bewitched and they would be gone, no such luck). So my hubby and I compromised, he would use the hoe and start chopping at the weeds and I would rake them up. Well, we got 3/4 of the way down one row. Yep, 3/4 down one row with 7 more to go. I'm not really a gardner, this is just the second time we have planted and the first time our garden was not this large. We have been working on it only in the afternoon, I guess we need to get up in the morning and also do some more weeding. But I tell my hubby "I'm not a morning gardner", I'm an afternoon like past 6:00 pm gardner. He told me "That's not going to work". Soooooo, I guess I will need to set my clock and wake up early tomorrow morning, but then again maybe I will and then maybeeee Not.

The Flowers are Blooming

The flowers are blooming! The angel trumpet plant is starting to come to a full bloom. I love the pink color.

The hisbiscus are also so colorful. I have several hisbicus trees in pots. I did not think they would make it being in pots, but they did. Lowe's had such a great sale last year that we were able to get four of these trees at $6.00 each.

I did some weeding again in the garden today, however, I still need to go out tomorrow and do some more. Like I said before, a never ending job. The lettuce is starting to grow. This is my first attempt at growing lettuce. It looks so cute (is there such a thing as cute lettuce? Well, mine is cute anyway.) I think the birds are getting to some of our sprouts as we have bare spots here and there in the rows of squash, beans and corn. I think I will need to make a scarecrow or something to keep those darn blackbirds out of the garden. Maybe my hubby will stand guard and shoo them away, Nottttttttt! he he!

1. I love to watch scarry movies knowing that I will not be able to sleep at night.

2. I love to buy craft/decorating/cookbooks, really all kinds of books and magazines, I think I have enough to open a bookstore.

3. I love to eat tuna salad sandwiches with ice cold chocolate mik.

4. I love the smell of new tires. When I was expecting my youngest son I use to make my DH take me to Sears Tire Center just to go smell the new tires. My doctor said I was a first on smelling new tire cravings he had heard of. (PS, I still love the smell of new tires, weird, huh.)

5. I always put on one sock and shoe and then put on the other sock and shoe. That way, I at least have one foot ready in case I should ever need to run out in a hurry, I'm half prepared. Does that make any sense?

6. I like to eat buttered popcorn with chocolate kisses. If you haven't tried it you should, great combination.

The Garden is Growing

The plants are growing! As you can see the tomatoes and cucumber plants are starting to stretch. In the back ground you can see the onions growing (all 200) ha! ha! I still need to do some weeding, but that seems to be a never ending job. We have also been trying to clean around the yard and get rid of a whole bunch of items that need to be gone. The weather has been so wonderful, in the 80's with a cool breeze.

Well, it's time to go back outside and do some weeding in the garden.

My Memory is Just Fine!

I have been working on the birthday card for Karla's Great Aunt Caroline who will be turning 100 yrs old. This is the first time I will be making a card and I'm so excited about trying this craft. I guess this will be my first practice as I will then be making the cards for the swap also hosted by Karla and Beth.

I'm just a slow learner at this time. I'm still battling with how to post on my sidebar (ex: the above pic, I wanted to add to my sidebar, don't know HOW, Uggh!) and how to post the pictures with writing underneath each picture instead of showing all the pictures at one time and then having the write up underneath. Soooo, if anyone can help me out, please contact me. I tried to post a picture and my computer said my memory was low. Now what is up with that! I am starting to get burned out again. My computer should not be complaining to me about his memory (noticed I said He cause surely its not a She, as we know all us women have great memories, Ok, I'll give HE some credit as He is the one posting my words.

I guess I'll have to sleep on this again, I do seem to accomplish more in the morning. Until tomorrow.

Birds and Bonnets Vintage Workshop Swap

I have signed up for Karla's and Beth's "Birds and Bonnets Vintage Workshop Swap". I finally was able to upload the images after having a hectic time trying to do this. (I still need to learn how to use my computer). I was so disillusioned yesterday after trying and trying (I even stayed up until 2:00 AM trying, even my hubby and son could not understand what was going on with my computer or with me. I even called my brother in SA for help, but of course, since I really don't know computer language, I could not even communicate with my brother as to what I was trying to accomplish. Ugh!! I was so ready to just give up trying to figure it out and was ready to announce " I QUIT, The Computer has won, I will no longer blog if I can't even upload images and try to join swaps, I will just go and fade away into the sunset. But then, I thought, No, I will sleep on it and try again in the morning. So, for what ever reason, I really don't know what happened. I read the instructions again, and IT WORKED, the computer fairies sprinkled their fairy dust and everything uploaded as if magic! Soooo, I still belong to Blogland. Taxes, Garage Sales and Gardens Oh My!

Today has been a little busy. First, we went and had our taxes filed. Whew! Glad we got that done, almost down to the wire. I hate rushing and thats what we usually end up doing. Got back in time to start hauling out all the stuff, I mean great bargains people will find at our "City Wide Garage Sale" our little town is having tomorrow. Now, I need to look inside our house to see what else I can get rid of. I love to have garage sales, but, I hate to actually sell my things. I'd rather go to garage sales and buy more things (hubby does not like this). I was in my cottage looking around at all of my goodies and really, I could not find enough things to part with. I think I came out with just two baskets full of things, my husbands things Ha! Ha!, not mine LOL. I guess I will just visit with people as they come by, I really don't have much to sell.

Will let you all know how it goes.

Now to the "Garden" , I pulled weeds and the next morning it looks like it just enticed them to come back out again. I hope it does not grow into a jungle out there as I won't be able to go out and pull weeds again until Sunday as I will be busy with the Garage Sale tomorrow. My tomato and bell pepper plants are growing fast. The cucumber plants have sprouted as well the the onions (all 200) and the corn and squash is starting to peak through also. Have not seen Mr. Cottontail, hopefully he got the hint and moved on.

I received my apron from my swap partner Deb at crochetoholic. OMG! the work she put into this apron is just Fabulous! I Lovvvve my apron, and all the goodies she enclosed. It was all wrapped in pretty pink scallopped tissue paper with a beautiful pink ribbon bow. Thanks again Deb, not only did I get the apron and goodies, but have acquired a new blogging friend.
