I love sewing aprons

This is the apron I made for my swap partner in the Flirty Apron Swap. I mailed it to my swap partner today. I hope she likes it. (Don't know why my picture came out side ways, I guess I will figure it out later). I really enjoyed sewing this apron that I decided to make three more. They are not complete yet as I'm working on all three to finish them up. Will post pics of them later.

Bling Your Birdhouse Party

Here are my bling bling birdhouses. I had so much fun decorating, only wish I could have done more. Be sure to go to Karla's cottage ( http://karlascottage.typepad.com ) and to Beth's (bethleintz.typepad.com/gathering_dust) and check out the other birdhouses. Hope everyone enjoyed blinging their birdhouses as much as I did.

Breakfast, Lunch or Supper

I am participating at Peanut Butter Etouffee 2nd Annual Pullet Surprise on March 26th, http://pbetouffee.blogspot.com. We are to enter a recipe where one of the main ingredients is eggs. So here is my recipe. It is called "Migas", I guess you would consider this a Tex -Mex dish and its means "crumbs" in English. It is bits of corn tortilla with egg and several other ingredients. My grandmother would make this dish as well as my Mom when we were younger. This dish can be made for breakfast, lunch or dinner depending on the ingredients used. This version is the one I use for breakfast. If you want to cook for lunch or dinner you can also add, green chiles, cooked chicken and garnish with slices of avocado, salsa and chopped cilantro.
Migas
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
8 corn tortillas
5 large eggs
3 Tblsp. canola oil
1/4 c. milk
1/3 c. chopped onions
1/2 cup grated cheddar
1/2 cup grated Monterrey Jack
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
Salt & Pepper to taste
Sour Cream
In a small bowl lightly beat the eggs, add the garlic powder, salt, pepper and milk and beat again and set aside. Stack and cut corn tortillas into small squares. Heat skillet pan with the oil and add the tortilla pieces and cook until slightly crispy. Add chopped onion and cook for 1 minute. Add beaten egg mixture to the tortillas and cook as you would scrambled eggs, stirring the mixture to mix with the tortillas until egg mixture is cooked. Sprinkle the shredded cheese and mix so that it slightly melts. Serve with a dallop of sour cream.
And enjoy.
I also took pictures of the dishes used that I bought at a garage sale, a serving set for 4, however, the cup saucers were missing but it was a bargain for $5.00. I love roses, aren't they cute?

Pretty Things!

Wanted to show what I received from Holly Doodle Designs on her February giveaway. Aren't the nut cups just adorable as the vintage millinery and of course the bling bling inside the cake box. Thanks again to Holly Doodle Designs.

Anyone for Crispy Chicken?

Easter started as a good day. I put chicken on the grill and started to prepare the sides. I kind of forgot about the chicken, so when I remembered and I went to check on it. Guess what, I burned the chicken. I mean it was charcoal crispy black. I came inside and told my husband and then I started to cry. I had all the sides ready but no main dish. My husband hugged me and said don't cry, its Ok, we just will go buy something to eat, burning the chicken was no big deal for me to be so upset about it.(He's soooo sweet). My son also hugged me and said not to worry the dogs would eat the burned chicken. (I don't know that the dogs would enjoy charcoal burned chicken, they did, they ate all of it.) Well, we went into town but every fast food place was closed. Some of the super markets were open but after that fiasco I was no longer in the mood to grill. I just wanted to get something already cooked. We did find a Church's Fried Chicken open and that's what we bought. My husband thanked the person that took our order for working on Easter. So we brought the chicken home and ate. Good thing I wasn't feeding a crowd. That would have been embarrassing. It was only my husband, my son and myself, however, it still was very upsetting to me. I have never burned chicken on the grill before. Maybe some beans, toast, cookies, boiled eggs (never burn boiled eggs, they pop and are very smelly).
My husband said next year we will just go to a restaurant. Sounds good to me.

Just a Lazy Day

Today was a slow one. Was planning on doing some yard work to start where we left off yesterday, but that did not happen. I did manage to cook some hamburgers on the grill so we could all eat and some mac and cheese, but right after, the sleeppees (don't think this is a word, just sounds good) took over. Sat down to watch some TV then fell asleep on the couch. My sister called so I had to wake up. She said she loved my Tea Party pictures but that we should have smiled a little more. She said we had "Deer Eyes" (like when the headlights are shinning bright in their eyes), oh well, those pics were taken in a hurry. Will try for some better pics next time.
Well, I need to finish my birdhouse for Karla's and Beth Bling your Birdhouse this coming Thursday Mar. 27th. Almost done.
Hope everyone has a great Hoppy Easter! Don't eat too much chocolate.

Spring came in with a Bang!!

Today is the first day of Spring and the ParTea Planner Tea Party. I was in my cottage getting all the things I needed to set up my Tea Party when I heard my son yelling to my husband to call 911. Well, I ran up front to find out what was going on. My husband said that our neighbors house across the street was on Fire! My son was already there and as I went inside, the stovetop was on fire and they were trying to put it out. Our Vol. Fire Dept. showed up along with some of our surrounding towns Fire Depts. It was pretty bad in her kitchen, however, it could have been worse. Thanks to God no one was hurt. We did help her remove her family pictures so they would not get water damage and helped mopped up some of the water on the floor after the fire was put out.
Well, this all leads up to why my afternoon Tea Party turned out to be a late night Tea Party. I did manage to get some of my party items out. I made chicken salad sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberries, strawberry cupcakes with strawberry frosting and chocolate frosting. (My husband doesn't care for Chocolate, how could that be?) and Hot tea. As you call tell from our photo, he has his jacket on as it was a bit nippy outside on our veranda. He had to wait a while as I was setting up and trying to get pictures taken. I did not feel the coolness with all the running around to set things up.

Great Time Had By All

Well, I'm back. I had a wonderful visit with my Mom, Auntie and Sister. Tuesday we went to the Witte Museum to see the exhibit "Our Body The Universe Within". It was so outstanding. Everyone should go and see this. It's amazing how they were able to do this.
When we returned back to my Mom's house, you guessed it, we had to play Scrabble. We played until our eyelids could no longer stay open. I did not win, my sister was again the winner. My aunt still does not have her Scrabble Mojo back.
On Wednesday we spent most of the day at the beauty shop, we had to get all pretty up. That night we went to the movies to see "The Other Boleyn Sister", this was a very good movie. I must have not paid attention in high school cause I sure don't remember reading about another Boleyn sister.
When we returned home, you guessed it, we played Scrabble until the wee hours again. The story repeats itself, I did not win, nor my aunt. My Sister was the champion again. ( I really need to make that Scrabble Crown).
Thursday we went to the San Marcos Outlet Mall. I love to go to Williams Sonoma, they have such great discounts as do the other stores there. After going into several other outlet stores we then left and went to several thrift stores. Oh my, what great finds. Will post pics later.
Didn't play Scrabble cause my sister had to go work the next day and I was leaving to come back home.
My aunt stayed the night Friday and on Saturday morning we took off . I belong to our towns Economic Development Commettee and all members were asked to attend the Grand Opening of the Orchard Smokehouse here in town. After pictures were taken for our local newspaper we then left to the Citywide garage sale in Needville. We found some great buys. I found the six cup chandelier for $1.00. I coundn't believe my luck. I had been trying to find one at thrift stores and had actually found one for $10.00 but did not get it, then I was upset that I did not buy it so I'm so happy I found one for $1.00. Yahoo!! I want to paint the brass part and put tea cups where the lights are. I saw this in a magazine and it looks really cute. Will post pics when I finish it.

Going On a Field Trip!

Going to San Antonio for a few days. Will return back on Friday. My auntie will be coming to whisk me away for a few days. I will also get to visit with mom and my sister and have a great girls outing. We will go to the thrifts stores and craft malls and most likely play Scrabble til the wee hours of the night. My auntie always wins!! The one time I beat her she said " I can't believe you won! I always win, what went wrong? " My sister now holds the winner's crown in Scrabble and of course my aunt said, " I can't believe she won, I always win, what went wrong? Ha ha ha, she's a riot. Love her. She will one day rule again and we will place the Scrabble crown on her head. The Scrabble kingdom will be her domain again. (Now that's an idea, I need to make a Scrabble Crown)

Don't Worry, Be Happy!!!

Great news! Holly just emailed and said not to worry. She just mailed my giveaway this week. Apology to the mail fairies.
Yahoo! I get to practice on my picture posting. As soon as received, I will post the pics.

Gloomy Rainy Day

These past few days have been so busy. A friend of mine asked if I would help her at the elections poll on Tuesday. Well, I have never done this before so it was a little scary. We had to go to a meeting on Monday and then pick up the polling information. Well, they could not find the box with all of the voter information for our precinct We had to leave without our box. They said, we will call you back when we locate it. Well, it turns out the box had already been delivered to our location to vote. Thank goodness, (we were getting worried).
We had to be there on Tuesday morning at 6:00 am (this means getting up at 5:00 am for me to get ready). I'm a morning person but not that early of a morning person. To top it off, I was so excited, I could not sleep. I think I fell asleep at 2:00 am to get up at 5:00 am. NOT A GOOD THING. When we got to our location the voting machine was there, however nobody said we were to put it together. My friend and I felt like Lucy and Ethel . We first put the legs on backwards then we could not understand why so short and it was tilting forward at that. So we got the legs facing the correct way and it turns out we did not pull the floor legs out enough to stabilize it and the reason why is was short was due to we had the handicap voter machine. Our town is so small we only had one machine for the Democrats and one for the Republicans. They had the palm pilot and we were given the clock. Working from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm , I thought would seem like forever for that length of time. Well amazingly it went by fast, met many neighbors and new neighbors and made many new friends. So glad when it was over. I was exhausted, slept practically all day Wednesday. Of, course did get up to check some bloggs but back to bed after that.
I think I am back to normal again since I rested. Will have to see how it goes for us again in November. I'm a verteran at this now. Ha Ha, NOT.

Well, its a rainy day Thursday. Those darn mail faeries somehow lost my giveaway prize from Ms. Holly Doodles, and now that I have learned how to post my pictures. I'm sure they made their home in that beautifut rose nut cup and are dancing on top of the sparkly sparkles making their dresses out of the dainty flowers. Oh well (sigh), maybe next time around they won't be so mischievous.
